US sim cards01 Oct 2003 00:48 GMT12
Hi group,
I'm trying to set my girlfriend up with a cell phone in the US. I'm from the
UK and know that what I'm going to ask about the US situation can be done in
the UK.
E-mail address for: Metro PCS, Cricket and Tracfone30 Sep 2003 14:15 GMT1
I've built a website (for graduation; no shameless self-promotion
here) for sending text messages (via e-mail) to cell phones...
...however, I haven't been able to find out e-mail addresses for:
- Metro PCS

Understanding Debug Screen (AVX 9500)30 Sep 2003 00:02 GMT4
I'm trying to understand and use the Debug menu on a Audiovox 9500.
Below is page one while making a cdma call. "Values" are variable.
The vocoder settings changed the display.
The antenna was lowered and extended and also covered, to see how the
Desperate hackers29 Sep 2003 01:39 GMT13
I don't know if anyone else has had a problem with this, but I have been
getting email after email trying to fool me into opening and executing
malicious code under the guise of being patches from Microsoft. Seeing
as how this is the only newsgroup I've posted to so far, it must be ...
Cricket service - Any good?  (Esp. for Tulsa)28 Sep 2003 22:44 GMT15
Hey all.  I'm finally looking into replacing my traditional SWBell phone
line, now that cellular prices are finally approaching what I already pay.
Primarily, I've been doing research on cell phones, ultimately determining
that they aren't quite as far along as I'd hoped.  Recently, ...
Want to have fun with customer service? Do this!28 Sep 2003 16:41 GMT189
I have never had so much heming and hawing as I did today. The new 10-point
consumer information code is now in effect and signed by most cellular
companies. Point two says they will "provide coverage maps, illustrating
where service is generally available." Voluntary best practices ...
GSM Phones28 Sep 2003 15:47 GMT3
Will a tri-band GSM cell phone 900/1800/1900 work on a 800/850 MHz
system?
The word "dongle"28 Sep 2003 04:13 GMT3
I thought dongle was just a silly word the Brits or Australians used, but
when I plugged in my new Sigmatel USB/IR adapter it said something like
"installing Sigmatel IR dongle."

Here's a brainteaser for you guys...27 Sep 2003 18:59 GMT2
I was mucking around with a Motorola 120e, trying to look deeper into
its technical aspects. I did this by going into the programming menu by
pressing MENU-0-7-3-8-8-7-*, then scrolling down and selecting "Test
Mode". The phone then successfully went into test mode (btw, the GPS

Nokia 5180i Tracfone26 Sep 2003 19:39 GMT5
I was wondering if there was anyway to have that particular model
phone re-programmed, because alltell has a much better pre-paid
service than tracfone, and i was hoping that maybe anyone knows if it
can be re-programmed to be used for that service.
Samsung SCH-1000 - Zero out phone number?25 Sep 2003 14:22 GMT24
I have an old Samsung SCH-1000 that I want to give to a friend to leave in his
glovebox just to call 911 in an emergency.  Could someone tell me how to clear
out my phone number from the phone so that if someone breaks into his car they
won't get my phone number along with my old ...

Where can I find a list of frequencies and where different ones are
supported or used?
Teledesic25 Sep 2003 11:47 GMT5
New to this group, thought I would say hi first.
Anyone hear anything about Teledesic lately? For those that don't know,
this company (mostly supported by partnerships with Microsoft and
Motorola) is working on implementing a global wireless high-speed
