Car Kits, Wired versus BlueTooth30 Jan 2007 21:24 GMT1
I have an LG VX4400 phone with U. S. Cellular in a Honda Civic. As I
elaborated in another post about reception troubles in rural Maine, the phone
works fine at work but does not work at home.
In shopping for other phones and plans I found that it is hard to find wired
Cell Reception in Smithfield Maine30 Jan 2007 20:16 GMT2
I am using a US Cellular phone in the Waterville Maine area. The reception is
good most places except within a mile of my house in Smithfield. I have begun
researching cell plans. Verizon, T Mobil, Unicel, and Cingulair are all here
but use each others towers etc.
Reception problems: T-Mobile was of NO help!!30 Jan 2007 06:47 GMT41
Ok, I have been a T-Mobile customer since October 2005 when I changed
from Sprint.
I was happy with my plan and service. I hardly use my phone for more
than making calls, receiving calls, and the occasional SMS.
How do you organize your phonebook?28 Jan 2007 19:11 GMT8
For a long time I was with AT&T's eventually ill-fated TDMA service. My
first free phone had little memory, one number to each name, and I
organized it as "Susan home" "Susan cell" etc.
Then I got a phone that could store a few names under each name (but
Enabling of BTSs for cell broadcast27 Jan 2007 11:05 GMT3
I have been told that most operators' PLMNs don't support Cell
Broadcast. I know that a Cell Broadcast Centre is needed, but I have
been told that a control hardware device is needed in each BTS as well.
Can anyone tell me the correct name of that device so I can look it up?

OK, so I left cingular, the bastards they are.
I had a corporate sponsored account with AT&Tand was paying about
$15/month for a very limited package. I had two phones on two
different bills under them.
Anyone running Skype on a Samsung Blackjack i607 PDAphone?23 Jan 2007 21:45 GMT3
I’m still on the hunt for a WORKING WM5 PDA that doesn’t crash every hour
like the Dell x51v did, so I can run Skype from wifi and/or cellphone
internet when I’m away from my own wifi network.  I have lots of Skype
friends across the planet and would like to have direct access to ...
Suggestions for emergency phone22 Jan 2007 05:45 GMT15
My need for a cell phone is very low.  I may use it once a month or
maybe a half dozen times on a trip a  few times a year.  I am looking for a
new service as my current service is being discontinued in a couple of
months.  I now have almost zero effective monthly fee (one minute ...

Dear Readers,
Will my TDMA cell phone be able to do anything after local TDMA service
termination (scheduled for March 31, 2007 in my area)?
Will it be able to dial 911?

Phone volume14 Jan 2007 01:38 GMT6
I'm looking at prepaid cell phone plans, trying to figure out how to
evaluate their volume levels, and how well they'll work with hearing
aids.  At least with a landline phone, I can try it out without having
to pay someone for the privilege.  Is there any way to do this with a
Calls from a disconnected phone?13 Jan 2007 23:53 GMT2
I have an old Cingular TDMA phone. The account was canceled over a year
ago and the number was ported to Verizon. Today I powered up the phone
and made 2 successful test calls (one was an international!). Calls
showed my Verizon ANI.
