Is there any Qualcomm chip problem with GSM phones?
I am thinking to buy pre-paid GSM cell phone from either T-Mobile or
Cingular Go-Phone? Are any of these uses Qualcomm chip and will have future
compatibility problems?

Today I spoke with an ATT Rep and was told no more Cingular.  Existing
Cingular will fall under the name AT&T as will SBC.
I had a good deal with ATT w/a higher quality Nokia and was told about a
