Unlimited local calls sounds good, but how much does it cost to call
voicemail? Is the15¢ charge per email message sent or received only charged
for messages sent/recieved from your mobile, or does this also apply to fido
webmail (i heard you can filter which messages are forwarded ...

850 or 900 in the Mtl/Tor corridor?14 Nov 2004 21:16 GMT4
does anyone know if the Rogers coverage between Montreal and Toronto is
mainly 850 or 900 MHz?  (the quad-band handsets still seem a bit pricey at
the moment)
thanks
Text message to France13 Nov 2004 22:12 GMT1
When I visited France in September, I made some friends with whom I
exchanged text messages when I wasn't in the same city than they were.
One is British and one is French.
The text messages worked when I was over there, but since I got back to
Fido roaming in USA13 Nov 2004 05:20 GMT4
Now that Cingular has officially taken over AT&T wireless, have there been any
changes to Fido customers roaming in the USA ?
Cingular made some adds about how the "network changed overnight" with
customers not having to lift a finger.
M55: no logo when on Rogers11 Nov 2004 03:26 GMT3
On a Siemens M55, when my phone decides to go on Rogers' network, insted of
displaying my background logo, it sticks to a blank background, displays
ROGERS (all uppercase) and still displayes the stupid www.fido.ca. If I force
the phone to lock onto Fido, then the logo re-appears.
analog coverage11 Nov 2004 02:48 GMT5
Does anyone know if the extended analogue coverage offered by Fido
(through Mobility) will still be offered? Or are they going to switch
it to Rogers analog network?
I recall that Rogers never offered analog fallback for its GSM
Are The Towers Really Switched????10 Nov 2004 23:58 GMT7
Surely all the tech stuff has not been done and will take a long time???
But with the "three months rogers roaming" it seems like they have been
switched/adjusted to allow for interoperability between GSM providers?  I'd
be shocked if it happened this quickly/easily...

keeping our Fido numbers?09 Nov 2004 21:13 GMT3
does it seem likely that current Fido customers will be able to keep their
Fido numbers, if they stay on with Rogers in the future?
also, now that Fido is part of Rogers, does that mean that current Fido
customers are not eligible for any "new activation" discounts from Rogers?
Rogers and Fido coverage09 Nov 2004 16:55 GMT2
Here's the Fido/Rogers "deal" about the new coverage :
"As of November 9, you'll be able to use the Rogers Wireless network for
three months at no additional charge. Any minutes you use on the Rogers
Wireless network will count towards your Fido monthly package. You will then

OK, so I wrote a short letter to the Minister today.  :)
First time ever.   Basically, I just told him that removing
Microcell would be bad for competition in the cellular market
in Canada.  (this seems pretty plain considering the
Rogers doesn't extend bid - must have gone through?08 Nov 2004 02:47 GMT9
Rogers' bid expired Nov. 5 at 5pm. Since Rogers didn't extend its bid,
I guess we can assume that it went through.
They say they will keep the Fido brand. But never said that they would
keep Microcell.... so bye bye Microcell employees and hello "Fido is a

All suggestions appreciated. I'd like to be on the phone 6 hours/day.
Which service do you suggest, and why. Thanks.
