I understand that GSM network can now work on frequencies:
- 800 MHz
- 900 MHz
- 1800 MHz

My brother-in-law mentioned he wasn't happy with his AT&T service and I
punched *#06#  into his relatively new looking Motorola phone and didn't get
any response. Can I assume that he must be on the old TDMA system?  Am I
wrong in assuming that all GSM phones respond to the *#06# ...

I am under the impression all voice communication over digital networks
is encrypted.  I am also under the impression that WAP transactions
must also be encrypted, since you can access secure sites. (am I
correct on these?)

Is there a way, short of putting in a different SIM card, of confirming
that a locked phone has been successfully unlocked?

What are the currently used ways of finding the 'own' MSISDN?

Does anyone know how to find the cell id of the nearest cell to your phone
in the UK? Preferably on Vodafone but any other info. welcomed.

The interface between BSC & MSC is called as 'Abis interface'.
I am just curious to know where exactly this term comes from, esp.
what 'bis' in 'Abis' means.
