My GSM phone service provider has roaming agreements with two networks in Japan: NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone. Does this mean it's possible to use my plain old GSM handset in Osaka? Anyone who has done so, please let me know.

I've used my phone in several countries, but not until I landed in the USA did it offer to update the time to the local time zone. While in the USA, each time I moved to a new time zone, the phone let me know and offered to update the time again.
