I am planning to send a cell phone as a gift to someone who lives in a country that doesn't have gsm networks. I know that gsm and tdma are built on the same underlying technology. My question is will a gsm phone work a tdma network?

I have a SIM card and I want to know if the numbers on it tell me anything about the phone and/or service. Can the numbers tell me if this is a prepaid SIM? http://urlsnip.com/025027

I have an ATT GoPhone, LG G4011, but Cingular says it will not work with there GoPhone. Is it useless or is there a way to get it to work with other SIM card networks?

MSNBC.com carried an item on T-Mobile wi-fi this morning: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8202465/ I wonder how they compare with other wireless Internet service providers (wi-fi as well as 1xRTT and EV-DO) like Verizon or AT&T-Cingular.

Verizon released the Treo 650 today. A question though. I have both Verizon and TMobile service. I use TMobile for travel to Europe with a SonyErricson T610. As I understand it the Treo uses a SIM card. Is it possible to take out the Verizon SIM

Is there a way to find out the phonenumber for the device via AT commands? For example my SonyEricsson Z600 is aware of it's own number. The GSM modem I'm currently interfaceing with is from Siemens. Thanks!
