Sun Microsystems late last month updated its JES (Java Enterprise System). The latest version, JES 3, features an upgraded application server; support for HP-UX and Windows; and licenses for Sun’s Identity Manager, N1 Grid Service Provisioning System, Portal Server Mobile Access, and Java Studio Enterprise products. Also new to Release 3 is the Enterprise Edition of Sun’s application server, which supports the latest version of the J2EE specification, Version 1.4, as well as some features for improving application availability. JES Release 2 came with the standard-edition application server. Sun increased the price of the JES suite to $140 per employee. This includes the additional products, although they are not integrated into the suite but offered separately.
