Motorola phones sales impress, networks disappoint

Reuters - Motorola Inc. , the world's No.
2 cellphone maker, on Tuesday posted a 1 percent drop in
first-quarter profit as strength in its handset unit failed to
offset weakness in its network equipment business in Asia,
pushing its shares down 5 percent.

AP - Texas Instruments Inc. said Tuesday its sales and profits rose in the first quarter due to strong demand for its computer chips that are used in cellular phones and other consumer gadgets.

first-quarter profit fell slightly due to stock option expenses
but revenue rose on strong mobile phone sales.
